Seattle Bound

On Friday Todd, Ethan and I headed to Seattle.  Ethan was a trooper and slept almost the whole way...PHEWW.

We went to Seattle Children's Hospital and were SOO impressed.  The doctors were so knowledgable and everything was very well organized and set up for families and kids.  We spent about 5 hours there and got great information.
Ethan was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis.  It was not a surprise, we were prepared and just needed confirmation.  Now that we have the information, we just have to sit back and wait.
We will be headed to Seattle with Ethan some time in the early summer for surgery to correct this problem.  Although no parent wants to hear that their child needs surgery, it is great to know that there is a solution and that there are people who are EXPERTS at this type of surgery.  I am scared, but confident that the doctors who will be working on Ethan are the BEST!!!
Ethan was an absolute trooper through the whole day.  He had a few tests run and blood drawn, and barely let out a peep.  He is such a good boy.
I on the other hand was on the verge of breaking down...BUT DID NOT CRY.  Pretty impressive huh??  I kinda figure that the worst is still yet to come...so I need to keep calm for as long as possible:)  THE worst part of the day was Ethan's CT scan.  He had to be strapped to a "cradle" (kinda like a papoose board).  His head was wrapped up and held tightly in place and his arms were strapped down in a tight swaddle.  He just looked around with his big blue eyes.  He looked and blinked and looked....so sad.  He NEVER let out a cry though.  We tried for about 15 minutes to get him to go to sleep, but you know how easy it is to sleep in a noisy hospital.  After trying so hard to get him to sleep (because we did not want to sedate him), they decided he was being so good they would try it.

Now obviously this is a big kid....and not mine, but you get the idea.  SAD!!!  BUT he was a champ.  He just layed there complety still, sucked on his binkie, and then when the lights started flashing and the machine started humming, he fell asleep.  I really could not have handled him getting upset at that point, so calm and cool baby meant calm and cool mama.
SOOO long story short...I love this kid and cannot wait for this chapter of our life to be behind us.

I'm glad you felt confident in the doctors ad hospital. Those Seattle hospitals have not let the Koch's down yet and we've worked them pretty hard!! I know God has his hand on Ethan and your family too. You are a strong momma for your babies. Much love, friend!

All I can say is, I am 100% amazed with you if you didn't shed a tear! That is impressive. I felt weepy just reading, and it's not even my infant. Sorry to hear an appointment and now surgery were needed for your little babe, but glad there's a positive outlook with drs. Good luck!
