From the mouth of BABES

My sweet Emersyn is just one of THOSE kids.  You know...the ones who people fall in love with. People at the grocery store....old people....random people I have never met.  She just has one of those personalities that people are drawn to.  She is also one of those kids who is ALWAYS brutally honest.  She just calls it like she sees it and moves on.  Pretty much EVERY day her sweet honesty makes me laugh...I love her to pieces and cannot believe I am lucky enough to have been blessed with such a joyful child. 

BUT...

Sometimes we as humans DO NOT want brutal honesty.  We want skinny mirrors and misses sizes and "fat free"  dessert.  We want to be told we look great right after we have a baby.  We want to cut the size 10 labels out of our pants and then tell ourselves they are an eight...AND we want to believe it darn it!!!  The problem....We can lie to ourselves....but not EVERYONE is going to follow along.  ENTER EMERSYN. 

The other day she was sitting quietly looking at a magazine.  I was making lunch and going right along with my imagined wonderful day when my sweet daughter says "Mom...I am really enjoying reading this lovely magazine."  I love it when she talks like a big girl.  It sets off all of my English teacher emotions and I almost want to hug her for using multi-syllable words.  I ask her "What magazine are you reading?"  to which she promptly replies "OH just this one with all of the pretty ladies in it."  I glance over and notice she is looking at the ATHLETA catalog.  If you are not familiar, it is a catalog filled with beautiful athletic ladies doing beautiful athletic activities in beautiful athletic clothing.  Exhibit A:

 

Well she continues to flip throught the pages and I continue to do mommy chores and then she says..."mom, some of the clothes in here are really pretty...too bad they wouldn't fit you."  I really should have just left well enough alone and continued in my ignorance, but I just had to know...."Why would they not fit me Em??" 
"Oh because I don't think these ladies have had their babies yet...I think their babies are still up in heaven." 
And their you have it folks.  The truth as she knows it.  I just laughed to myself and told her she was probably right.  And she probably is...those ladies have FOR SURE not had their babies yet. But of course Emersyn is not done with me yet.  She is determined to find me something that I can order out of that catalog.  Pretty soon SHE FINDS IT!!  She comes running and yelling "mommy...I found something in here that I bet would fit you!!  Come see!!"  And you know what....I think she probably did find the ONE thing in that book that I could order for myself and look my best in....A HAT!!!
