Craft Update

Ok--so I got a sweet phone call congratulating me on getting a good night of sleep on Sunday night and I realized I forgot to mention the most important part of the story. YES Emersyn was in her crib from 8 till 5, and yes she was sleeping soundly and perfectly fine and happy. NO I was not. I kept waking up and wondering if she was ok and why she was not crying or waking up. Stupid I know, but that is how it goes. If she could do this for more than one night at a time, maybe I could get into the habit of sleeping for longer than 2 hours at a time.

Moving on. Crafts. I am sure that some of you don't care and can't imagine why I would post the little things I create (since no doubt they are like the things you made at age 12), but for me they are big successes!! So find another blog to stalk if I am too boring for ya.

First off I have a wall hanging that I made. It is actually a 4th of July decoration, but it was cute and I made it. Plus there was one I wanted to make for someone else, but I wanted to try it out on a practice one first. So here was my practice shot. I still need to put the buttons on the hanging tabs and possibly quilt it (maybe not), but that will probably be later.

Next, is a Christmas quilt (I know I have my holidays all mixed up). I bought this to make for Emersyn for Christmas, but didn't even start it until after Christmas--So maybe for next year. It is by far the most difficult pattern I have done, but it was fun and I learned a lot. I would like to do another one with different fabric because I know I could do better next time. I still need to buy backing and the quilt it and bind it--all the hard stuff for me--and then it will be ready--maybe by next Christmas. You may have noticed that I like to start projects and do as much as I can and then wait until the last minute to do the finishing touches that I hate!! Bad Habits.
Last, I made these pillow cases for Operation Comfort. It is a great local program that sends boxes of supplies and food to the troops. We raised a bunch of money at the high school when I was there and then spent a day packing boxes for this group. I was so amazed and touched when I visited their building that I volunteered to make pillows. They gave me 50 tags--I am not sure I have 50 pillows in me, but I will try. I also luckily had a bunch of free fabric that I inherited, so it costs me nothing but time. Their goal is to send every soldier a box (which would have a pillow in it). Actually it is so cool. They send food, shampoo, razors, books, games, hats (knitted by old ladies), pillows, paper, pens, the list goes on. They fit it all into little boxes and ship them over to the war. I was in tears when I saw the pictures of the soldiers laying on their little pillows and thought--hey I can sew straight lines (sometimes). So if you are interested in practicing your straight sewing skills, go check out their website. It is a great cause and will make you feel great. I sew with a smile on my face--which is not usual:)
So that is what I have been up to during nap time (not yesterday though because Emersyn was on a sleep strike and did not take an afternoon nap:().
