Lions and Tigers and Bears--OH MY!!

Happy Monday Everyone!! I had a fun weekend--Junior Miss. Although I would have chosen things a little differently, it was a good night and some great girls participated this year. It was a fun (baby-free) night.
As you know, I have been listing things that I love based on different letters of the alphabet. I have made it to L and have been picking my brain for L-words that I could write about. BUT actually the only thing that came to mind was Lions and Tigers and Bears. Lame I know, but that is what pops into my head--SO I have decided to try something new and share a story from my childhood AND about lions, tigers, and bears--OH MY!!
SO-it was in 2nd grade and me and a group of friends began preparing a play of the Wizard of Oz during recess. It was just something that we played at, but we took it very serious. After many many weeks of practicing and making "costumes" during recess, we asked if we could put the play on for our classmates. I am not sure why our teachers agreed, but I guess they were ready for a teaching break--understandable.
ANYWAY...I was the ballerina in munchkin land AND the Cowardly Lion. So I did a short
little dancing introduction in a tutu and then went behind a tree and became the cowardly lion--big responsibility:)

So things were going fine that morning. I got all dressed up as a ballerina and all tutu-ed out and then realized I needed to go to the bathroom (you may see where this story is headed). I kept telling people that I needed to go back inside and go to the bathroom, but the kept telling me that there was not enough time. SO the play started and I danced and then headed behind the tree. I had a paper tail to tape on (big budget you know) and prepared for my big introduction. However while behind the tree disaster struck and I wet my pants. I remember the horror of knowing I would have to jump out from behind the tree and have wet pants, especially because the 3rd graders were also there watching--the cool kids!!! Anyway it was almost my turn and Dorothy, the Tin Man, and the scarecrow were coming down the sidewalk saying "Lions and tigers and bears--oh my" "Lions and tigers and bears--oh my"--which was obviously my cue to jump out. I didn't jump out though so they just kept saying "lions and tigers and bears--oh my" Finally after about 3 trips up and down the sidewalk repeating "lions and tigers and bears" I made my entrance. I stepped out from behind the tree, growled a little, said my parts--very unconvincingly--and was the worst cowardly lion ever--ESPECIALLY because my paper tail was wet and drippy!!!

This may have been the most embarrassing moment of my life at that point and obviously it made a bit of an impact on me since I still remember it in vivid detail till this day. I never really loved The Wizard of Oz--the scary monkeys you know--but I for sure can never hear "lions and tigers and bears" without laughing over this story.
