Today was EVEN better for us. Ethan's eyes are even more swollen and he is SUPER not happy about it, but his attitude is mostly good. He stays awake for longer periods of time and acts more like his normal self.
Check out his little ear. It almost sticks straight out because his head is so swollen. He looks a little odd, but kinda cute in an orphaned puppy sort of way:)
He hung out with Daddy for the first time today. I got a much needed break and a trip to the shower rooms. We still had some bad points today---puking, not eating, crying---but mostly Ethan slept and was a pretty happy kid. We were told that he needed to POOP today. We have done just about everything to make that happen...it is the topic of MUCH discussion. In the afternoon Ethan really made a big turn around. He was awake for a pretty long period of time and he was almost playing. He kept un-doing his diaper and not listening to his daddy. And he REALLY wanted his IV off. It is hooked to the large cast on his arm and it drives him NUTS. He picks at it, pulls at it, and holds it up and grunts---telling EVERYONE he is unhappy about its existence. His eyes have turned a bit purple and his LONG eyelashes have all but disappeared into the swollen lids--poor guy, but his personality has emerged, so I guess it is a fair trade.
We have also been able to go for some walks today. So we just carry him around--up and down the halls--explaining to him what we see. He grunts or points and acts happy just to be moving around. He tries to get down and walk around, but it is just toooooo scary with all of the drugs in his system...not to mention the large incision on his head. But he has walked a bit with our help--back and forth from mommy to daddy. It is actually super funny because he cannot see so he will turn and put his arms up---but NOT be facing anybody. Today on one of our walks he heard someone laugh and he laughed with them...it was a small glimpse of his old self that made me SUPER happy. I miss his little narrow head, but I miss his happy little personality even more.
He still has not managed to get his IV off--although he is without ALL other tubes and wires and his IV is not attached anymore---but we have one small success today. WE HAD A POOP--which essentially means we can check one more thing of of our GOING HOME to-do list. Now he JUST has to open those eyes...I guess that will have to wait until tomorrow...
