Post-Op--day 4

Yesterday was THE DAY.  The day that you see on the internet.  The day that all the doctors talk about.  The day that all parents of kids getting cranio surgery are warned about.  Yesterday was SWELLING day.
BUT somebody forgot to tell Ethan that yesterday was the BAD day.  For him, it was BACK TO NORMAL day.  He woke up happier, spent LOTS of time awake, and had lots of smiles for everyone.
And you cannot HELP but smile back at a kid with a giant bald head and puff ball eyes.  Everyone LOVED him.  He was like the entertainment for all the nurses.
It just about breaks your heart to see his giant swollen eyes.  They are so big they ALMOST cover his long beautiful eyelashes.
But Ethan didn't care about all that.  All he cared about was WALKING.  He wanted to take walks ALL DAY!!!  He of course was not doing the walking though...his dad and I were.  We would carry him up and down the halls...up and down...up and down.  Then as soon as we would get back to the room again...he would point to the door and say AHH.  Which translates to MORE WALKING PLEASE!!  We would walk along and he would shout out AH to anybody who happened to walk by.  OR everytime we passed the nurses station.

BUT we also spent a lot of time like this.  Just me and Ethan hanging out.  Sometimes I would THINK that he was sleeping (you know cause his eyes were closed), but then I would look down and see him secretly trying to get his IV off...
He was even back to his old self enough to fight over his breakfast spoon.  He was eating his cheerioes but wanted to DO IT HIMSELF!!  He threw a big fit until we gave him the spoon and THEN he tried to eat them by himself...BLIND!!  Talk about stubborn.   He even fell asleep with that darn spoon.  He was NOT giving up!!
Once he started feeling better, he REALLY started feeling better.  He REALLY wanted to get down off my lap and run around.  HELLO---NO WAY.  I was terrified to see him wanting to walk around.  Did he not know that he was fragile:)
Ethan even got to entertain visitors yesterday.  Manny, Vicki and Hailee stopped by and got a good show.  It was sooo nice to have some friendly faces around---thanks guys!!!
The BEST part of yesterday was the HIGH FIVE!!!   A few weeks back Ethan learned to give his dad high fives.  Yesterday he was giving high fives to EVERYONE.  Even the plastic surgeon got a big one!!
It was pretty humorous because he couldn't see.  So he would just throw his hand up there and expect you to do the work.  OR he would THINK he was high fiving you, but would actually be turned in the opposite direction.  TOO FUNNY!!
Yesterday was not perfect by any means, but smiles and high fives...How do you beat that???

Jessica,

I have been reading your blog about your little Ethan. I pray that he will recover. It makes me smile that he was giving people high fives even if he couldn't see. He is such a cute little boy.
